Well, “Hello!,” and welcome to Keep Faith.
I am so excited that you came over to visit and see what this is all about! Just a quick introduction to how we ended up here.
To get straight to the point, in a nutshell, Keep Faith is a ministry working to serve God by helping and serving others in need. That’s the quick answer to what we do, but I want to share with you a little bit more about how we got here.
The “Why.“
Helping people. Being kind. Sharing Jesus with others. The question shouldn’t be “why,” but rather “why not.”
Several years ago, my faith life changed. I wanted more. I envied what I saw in Fr. Joshua Johnson (shout out), a true love and deeper relationship with Christ. I wanted my life to be defined by my relationship and service to Christ rather than my own desires and accomplishments. That day as I sat in our normal spot in church for Sunday mass watching the excitement in Fr. Josh as he spoke of God during the Homily and witnessing how he was deeply moved through his faith and relationship with Christ, I decided at that very moment, I wanted that! In that same instance, I knew that I could have that very same thing, BUT not without change.
I was willing to make that change. It was in that very moment that flashes occurred through my mind of what I needed to do to open myself to receive this same gift.
I was committed.
I was going to “follow God’s lead!
One of the changes that I needed to make in order to grow my relationship with Christ was committing to daily time for Christ. After all, if you want to grow and nurture any relationship, you have to put in time. I was willing.
During these times, I would be inspired. It wasn’t important or necessary to know or understand all the details. What was most important was that I was to follow God’s lead. It would be God’s way not my way.
If you knew the “old me” then you would know that this would be a difficult task. I was a control freak. I needed everything to be planned and go the way it should. I needed to have control of the circumstances and outcome. I couldn’t rely on anything or anyone if I wanted it to be right, you know, my way.
First lesson: Give up control. Rely on Christ, He will show you the way.
My daily conversations and prayers with Christ brought on thoughts and inspirations which would inspire and lead me to the answers that I needed. What I would come to learn is that I was to spread the love of Christ to others by helping those who are in need physically, spiritually, mentally. Listen. “Be a disciple for me. Let your hands do my work. Hear me.”
But, “how?”
I would soon learn that these answers would come in time as well. Whether it was during prayer, sitting in silence, at Adoration, sleeping or through encounters or inspiration, all I needed to do was open myself to following God’s lead.
So here we are a few years later, growing spiritually and working to follow God’s lead through this ministry, Keep Faith.
If you want to know more about the name, Keep Faith, I share that in another story.
